What benefits are available to businesses and their employees?
If your business has 2 or more employees working at least 25 hours per week, it may qualify for health benefits at attractive group rates—
- Medical, including traditional PPO, POS, and HMO plans and Tax-Qualified High-Deductible Health Plans (HDHPs)
- Dental, including PPO plans with in- and out-of-network coverage and low-cost dental discount plans
- Health Savings Accounts (HSAs), Health Reimbursement Accounts (HRAs), and Flexible Spending Accounts (FSAs) offering low premiums and tax abatement and retirement opportunities
- Disability Income, both short-term and long-term income replacement
- Life Insurance with death benefits at a multiple of the employee's salary
- Long-Term Care offering individual coverage at group rates
Who is an eligible employee?
- Someone legally working full-time 25 or more hours per week
- Independent Contractors (1099 employees) if the employer makes them an eligible segment
- Married couples who jointly own and operate a business
- Temporary and seasonal employees are not eligible for coverage (the employer determines who is temporary / seasonal)
Who is an eligible dependent?
- A legally married spouse
- A child up to the date of his or her 19th birthday
- An unmarried fulltime student attending any accredited school (not necessarily a college) up to the day of his or her 23rd birthday
- An unmarried disabled child who is financially dependent upon the employee for support
- Domestic partners if the employer offers such coverage. (Domestic Partner is defined as a same sex partner over age 18.)
- A dependent child under age 30 who qualifies for coverage under State law [hot links]
